Knight of Wands

Knight of Wands

Wands

How This Card Is Derived

Papus gives no separate description of this card. It is derived from his system: Wands is Yod (י), the active, originating principle, acting in Atziluth, the archetypal world; the Knight is Vau, the equilibrating term embodied — it carries, transmits, moves between. The meaning below is that combination read out, not a quotation from him.

Upright

The equilibrating term as a person, in the suit of pure will: movement itself. The Knight of Wands is departure — the venture undertaken at once, the leaving, the force that connects one place to another by crossing the distance at speed. Papus's Vau binds, and this Knight binds by arriving. What he does not carry is any account of what happens after the arrival.

Reversed

Departure as a habit — every venture begun and none of them inhabited. Or the horse held at the gate, all the force present and none of it discharged, which in the active suit turns inward.

In a Spread

At the commencement, the matter begins with someone leaving or launching. In opposition, a force in motion that argument does not slow. At equilibrium nothing stays balanced — the Knight is a passage. As the result: the thing moves, decisively, and the reading should be checked for where it lands.
