How This Card Is Derived
Papus gives no separate description of this card. It is derived from his system: Pentacles is He final (ה), the realizing principle, the term that makes fact, acting in Assiah, the material world; the King is Yod, the suit's active principle embodied — it originates. The meaning below is that combination read out, not a quotation from him.
Upright
The active term inside the material world: the one who commands resources. Papus's Yod originates, and in Assiah origination means putting means into motion — founding, funding, deciding what gets built. The King of Pentacles is not a hoarder; four is the hoarding card. His authority consists in the fact that when he directs a resource it moves, and the material world rearranges itself around the direction.
Reversed
Command exercised for the accumulation itself — means moved only in circles that end where they started. Or authority over resources that were inherited rather than made, and are being spent as though they were infinite.
