Two of Pentacles
Pentacles
How This Card Is Derived
Papus gives no separate description of this card. It is derived from his system: Pentacles is He final (ה), the realizing principle, the term that makes fact, acting in Assiah, the material world; the number 2 is He of the first series, the passive reflection of that origin. The meaning below is that combination read out — the realizing principle, the term that makes fact taken at its 2nd term — not a quotation from him.
Upright
The passive reflection of the Ace: one resource seen as two demands. Papus's second term does not create, it doubles and reflects, and in the material world that reflection is the constant adjustment between two obligations, neither of which can be dropped. The figure juggles because both coins are real. This is competence rather than chaos — but competence with no slack anywhere in it.
Reversed
The balance dropped — one obligation abandoned, usually the quieter one. Or juggling maintained well past the point where it was necessary, because the motion has become the identity.

In a Spread
At the commencement, the matter begins with two commitments and one set of means. In opposition, a second obligation nobody is counting. At equilibrium this is precisely what is happening, and it is not free. As the result: both are kept up, and Papus's second term promises nothing beyond that.
