The reflection of the Star: where seventeen pours out, twenty calls back. Resh is the head of a man — the seat of what recognises and answers. Papus's twentieth arcanum is renewal, and specifically renewal by summons: something considered finished is required to account for itself. The figures rise because they are called. They did not choose the hour, and the card gets its force from exactly that.

Reversed

The summons ignored, or answered for the wrong reason — appearance without accounting. Reversed can also mark a renewal that is only repetition: the same life resumed under a new name, which passes for change until the first test of it.

At the commencement, the matter begins because something old was reopened. In opposition, a reckoning arriving on someone else's schedule. At equilibrium the situation is being held pending an answer that has not been given. As the result: renewal, and Papus's kind is not chosen — it is required, and the only question is how it is met.
